Ok – it’s the 9th June and it is only 5 weeks till we head off.
The cars are now ready apart from all the sponsor stickers to be put on. Sunday past saw us carry out all the last tasks on my car. New radiator and fan clutch, new rear number plates lights to conform to Europe standards, engine, gearbox and transfer box oil change (oh oh – quite a few metal shavings in the gearbox – gulp), wired up the roof spot lights to a new switch and immediately blew a fuse but ok now, greased up my nipples (oh please) and did a bolt tension exercise. Car feels great and it is as good as it is going to get before we set off. Just needs a clean and top up the tank.
Sponsorship is going well. I reckon we are looking at raising maybe 2k GBP in the UK and around 12k GBP in Baku so the fundraising has definitely been worthwhile. Thanks to everyone who has contributed. Martin and I have just returned from a IWC lunch where they were kind enough to invite us along to give a talk on what we are doing as the monies we raise this side is going to be donated to them. All in all a success I think although we now know that Martin and I are not cut out to be town criers or public speakers in any form.
We now have my wife’s (Angie) and daughter’s (Sophie) tickets bought for July. Well I say bought – we won them in a raffle at the Irish Society Dinner so Lufthansa are shuttling them off to Edinburgh FOC and the society are paying for a weeks hotel and car hire for them until I meet them in Aberdeen at the end of July (all going well) which is a great prize and much appreciated.
